Tom Hanks responds to offensive SNL skits as he leaves Trump supporters outraged with shocking appearance

Tom Hanks’ recent portrayal of a MAGA supporter in a “Black Jeopardy!” sketch during “Saturday Night Live’s” 50th anniversary special has ignited significant backlash from Trump supporters. In the sketch, Hanks’ character, Doug, hesitates to shake hands with a Black contestant, reinforcing stereotypes about Trump supporters. This portrayal has been criticized as offensive and divisive.

Former “SNL” cast member Victoria Jackson labeled the sketch “stupid,” questioning why similar parodies of Kamala Harris supporters weren’t made. Political commentator Link Lauren and Meghan McCain also expressed disapproval, accusing “SNL” of perpetuating stereotypes about MAGA supporters.

In response to the backlash, Hanks has not issued a public statement. However, during the anniversary special, he led a segment acknowledging and condemning past “problematic” sketches and characters on “SNL,” including those that perpetuated ethnic stereotypes and sexism. This self-critical segment aimed to highlight the show’s evolution and encourage viewers to reflect on past content.

The controversy underscores the ongoing tension between political satire and its audience. While some defend the sketch as a legitimate form of political commentary, others view it as an unfair attack on a specific group. This incident reflects broader debates about media representation and the impact of satire on public discourse.
