A$AP Rocky’s Six-Word Message to Jury After Unexpected Verdict in Shooting Trial

In a dramatic conclusion to a high-profile legal battle, rapper A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, was acquitted of all charges in a Los Angeles courtroom on February 18, 2025. The 36-year-old artist faced two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, stemming from a 2021 incident involving his former friend and fellow A$AP Mob member, Terell Ephron, known professionally as A$AP Relli. The jury, composed of seven women and five men, deliberated for approximately three hours before delivering the not guilty verdict.

Upon hearing the verdict, an emotional A$AP Rocky leaped over the courtroom bench to embrace his longtime partner, Rihanna, who was visibly tearful. The couple’s public display of relief and affection underscored the intense personal toll the trial had exacted on them. As the jurors exited the courtroom, Rocky expressed his profound gratitude, stating, “Thank y’all for saving my life.”

The charges originated from a November 6, 2021, altercation in Hollywood, where Ephron alleged that Rocky fired two shots at him, one of which grazed his hand. The defense, led by attorney Joe Tacopina, contended that Rocky had discharged a prop gun loaded with blanks, retrieved from a music video set, and argued that he acted in self-defense during the confrontation. The absence of the firearm in evidence and the delayed introduction of the prop gun narrative added complexity to the case.

Throughout the trial, Rihanna provided steadfast support, attending sessions alongside the couple’s two young sons, RZA and Riot. Following the acquittal, she took to social media to express her relief and gratitude, attributing the favorable outcome to divine intervention.

The not guilty verdict spares A$AP Rocky from a potential 24-year prison sentence, allowing him to continue his burgeoning career. Upcoming engagements include headlining the Rolling Loud music festival in March and co-chairing the Met Gala in May. Additionally, he is set to appear alongside Denzel Washington in Spike Lee’s film “Highest 2 Lowest,” slated for a summer release.

This legal victory not only preserves Rocky’s personal freedom but also enables him to maintain his influential presence in the music and fashion industries. The case highlights the complexities of legal proceedings involving high-profile individuals and underscores the profound impact such trials can have on the personal lives of those involved.
