My Rich Boyfriend Rented a Fake Cheap Apartment to Test My Loyalty

When I met Jason, I thought I had finally found someone special. He was kind, charming, and always made me laugh. We clicked instantly, and after a few months of dating, he asked me to move in with him. I was thrilled—until I saw where he lived.

Jason took me to a tiny, rundown apartment in a not-so-great part of town. The paint was peeling off the walls, the furniture looked like it came from a thrift store, and the entire place had a musty smell. I tried to hide my surprise, but I couldn’t help but ask, “You live here?”

He nodded. “Yeah, I wanted to be upfront with you about my situation. I’m not rich, and this is all I can afford.”

I was confused. Jason always dressed well, drove a nice car, and took me to fancy restaurants. But I didn’t want to be shallow, so I told him, “It’s fine. What matters is that we’re together.”

For weeks, I tried to adjust. The apartment was cramped, and the old heater barely worked. Jason asked if I was okay with it, and I reassured him that I didn’t care about money—I cared about him. But something about the situation felt… off.

One day, I came home early and saw Jason getting out of a luxury car. He wasn’t supposed to be home yet, and the car was way too expensive for someone who claimed to be struggling. My curiosity got the best of me, so I followed him from a distance.

To my shock, he walked into a high-end apartment building across town. I waited for him to enter and then asked the doorman about him. “Oh, Mr. Carter? He’s lived here for years. The penthouse suite,” the doorman said casually.

I felt my blood boil. He had lied to me.

That night, I confronted Jason. At first, he tried to deny it, but when I mentioned the penthouse, his face fell. “I was testing you,” he admitted. “I needed to know if you were with me for my money or because you really loved me.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “You lied to me and made me live in awful conditions just to ‘test’ me? Do you have any idea how insulting that is?”

Jason tried to defend himself, saying he had been burned by gold diggers before. But I wasn’t having it. “If you don’t trust me, then we have no relationship,” I told him.

I packed my bags that night and left. If Jason needed to trick me to see my true character, then he never truly respected me. Love is built on trust, and once that’s broken, no amount of money can fix it.
