When I Brought a New Woman to a Party After My Divorce, My Ex-wife Blurted, ‘You Idiot!’ & Burst into Laughter
Walking into the party with Vanessa on my arm, I felt a mix of nerves and confidence. It had been six months since my divorce from Lisa, and I was ready to move on. Or at least, I wanted to believe I was.
Vanessa was stunning—tall, elegant, and effortlessly charming. She laughed at my jokes, held onto my arm just the right way, and made sure everyone noticed we were together. Tonight was my unofficial way of showing Lisa—and everyone else—that I was doing just fine.
But as soon as we stepped into the room, I spotted Lisa near the bar, chatting with some friends. When her eyes landed on us, she froze for a split second. Then, to my surprise, she burst out laughing.
“You idiot!” she blurted, shaking her head, still chuckling.
The entire room fell silent. My face burned with embarrassment. Vanessa tightened her grip on my arm, clearly confused.
“Lisa, what the hell?” I snapped, my pride taking a direct hit.
She wiped a tear from her eye, trying to catch her breath. “I—I’m sorry, I just can’t believe you did this.”
“Did what?” I asked, glancing around uncomfortably.
Lisa walked over, still giggling. Then, she turned to Vanessa. “I don’t suppose you know, do you?”
Vanessa frowned. “Know what?”
Lisa smirked and pulled out her phone. A few taps later, she held it up to show a picture—of Vanessa. And me. Together. From two years ago.
My stomach dropped.
Lisa grinned. “You really don’t recognize her, do you?”
I blinked at the photo, my mind spinning. Then it hit me—Vanessa wasn’t just some woman I met recently. She was a girl I had gone on a few dates with before I had even met Lisa. I had completely forgotten.
I turned to Vanessa in shock. “Wait… we went out before?”
She crossed her arms. “Wow, you don’t even remember?”
Lisa burst into laughter again. “Oh, this is too good. The man who always prided himself on ‘paying attention to details’ literally brought a woman he dated before me to a party full of our mutual friends!”
The weight of the situation crashed down on me. Everyone was watching, some trying to hold back laughter, others whispering. I had unintentionally turned myself into the night’s entertainment.
Vanessa sighed. “Well, this is awkward.”
Lisa patted my shoulder, still grinning. “You know, I was going to be mad, but honestly, this is the funniest thing you’ve ever done.”
I groaned, rubbing my face. “Can I just disappear now?”
She laughed. “Nope. You’re staying right here and owning it.”
And just like that, my big post-divorce statement turned into the biggest joke of the night.
